Freeport-McMoRan had something for everybody at the recent 5th Annual Mining Day the Arizona State Capitol.

The company was a participating sponsor again this year bringing haul truck and shovel simulators from the San Carlos Training Institute, a copper coil from Miami and a haul truck tire. Attendees also got to put on a hard hat and snap a photo against the backdrop of the Morenci pit.

Employee volunteers were on hand to answer questions and provide information about the company, and many assisted with various activities for fourth-grade students attending from local schools.

"We are proud to continue our support as a key sponsor of Mining Day, which provides a great way to communicate how important and beneficial this industry is to Arizona and its citizens," said Red Conger, President and Chief Operating Officer-Americas. "Our company has a rich mining heritage in Arizona that spans more than a century and we are proud of each employee – past and present – who has contributed to our legacy in the state."

Sponsored by the Arizona Mining Association and Arizona Rock Products Association, the goal of the event is to highlight mining's positive impact on the state in terms of employment opportunities, economic impacts and improved quality of life that the varied uses of minerals provide.
