Employee Volunteer Fund

Freeport-McMoRan is proud to support employees that give their time and effort to help those in need by offering funds to match unpaid volunteer hours served. When an employee volunteers a minimum of 25 hours a year with a nonprofit organization, the organization is eligible to earn either a $250 or $500 grant. Please note: in order to qualify for this program, employees cannot receive funding from the organization or school being nominated. In 2015, the Foundation gave $65,500 to organizations through the Employee Volunteer Fund.

Eligible Participants
All permanent, full-time or part-time Freeport-McMoRan employees who are employed by the company are eligible for the program.

Eligible Organizations/Programs

Any nonprofit, charitable, civic, health, social welfare, educational, cultural or community organization or project that provides a public service is eligible.

Organizations must have tax-exempt status as defined in Section 501(c)(3) or 509(a)(1, 2 or 3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code, or be an instrumentality of a state or local government (as defined by Section 170(c)1 of the Internal Revenue Code which generally covers educational institutions).

Funds must be used for any charitable purpose agreed upon by the organization and the employee volunteer. No personal material benefit may be derived by the employee (or a family member). For example, funds may not be used for membership fees, event / entrance fees, event tickets, student tuition or fees, etc.

NOTE: Organizations outside the U.S. must provide documentation that they are the “equivalent” of a not-for-profit organization that exists for the sole purpose of providing a public service.

The Freeport-McMoRan Foundation reserves the right to determine the eligibility of any organization based on its consistently applied non-discriminatory criteria, and all such decisions of the Foundation are final and binding.

Use of Funds Contributed by Freeport-McMoRan Foundation
Employee donations may be in the form of check, credit card payment, or securities with a quoted market value only. The Foundation does NOT match in-kind donations.

Employee donations must be solely charitable in nature, with no material benefits received by the donor. Meaning, absolutely no personal, material benefit may be derived by the employee (or a family member) as a result of their charitable donation.

The Freeport-McMoRan Foundation match contributions MUST follow the personal donation made by the employee. The program that receives the initial donation will receive the Foundation match. The Foundation nor the employee can designate a Company match to go towards an alternate program even if it is within the same organization.

The Freeport-McMoRan Foundation does NOT match donations made for any of the following and the Foundation’s match contributions may NOT be used for any of the following: reduction in or payment of tuition/fees; religious institutions or programs whose primary purpose is propagating a particular religious faith, creed or doctrine or programs limited to membership at a place of worship; organizations that discriminate on the basis of race, gender, religion, age, disability or veteran status; political or lobbying organizations, including those supporting the candidacy of any individual; organizations that may pose a conflict with the goals, programs, products or employees of Freeport-McMoRan and its subsidiaries; individuals, including support for specific students, researchers, travel funds, conference fees, medical procedures, etc.; labor organizations; housing and/or travel subsidization for the employee or any recipient; membership fees or dues; event /entrance or subscription fees; tithes/offerings; insurance payments; equipment fees; event tickets; advertising; collegiate athletic programs (such as construction of an athletic stadium or athletic scholarships); gifts made with funds provided to donor for donation purposes by other persons; or gifts to organizations not eligible to receive tax-deductible charitable contributions as determined by the IRS.
