Copper & Molybdenum Education

Copper and molybdenum are essential to today's modern standard of living.  Mining brings these resources “to life.” The educational resources below are tools to assist those with a desire to learn about copper and molybdenum mining and/or incorporate this learning into a classroom setting.

The Copper: More Than Metal and Molybdenum: Helping to Build a Stronger Future newspapers highlight the importance of these metals and their use in daily life and also explain the mining process from exploration to post-closure. Also, The Wonder of Copper is an interactive map that highlights where copper is found, what it is used for, and much more.

We also partner with a number of organizations that provide resources to schools to support their efforts to increase student interest and achievement in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) and also in natural resources, minerals and mining specifically.

Discovery Education's Dig Into Mining

Discovery Education and Freeport-McMoRan have partnered to create an interactive program for grades 6-8 that uncovers the use of transition metals such as copper, gold and molybdenum in our everyday life, and provides students a deeper understanding of today’s hard rock mining industry. The initiative equips educators, students and families with dynamic resources - including a virtual field trip, interactive digital learning tools, and school-to-home connections with career exploration activities – designed to give students a front row seat to nature’s geological wonders and inspire further exploration of the world around them.
